| Post subject: | Air Brush reccomendation |
I need to get an airbrush for some touch up work. I figured that I could use it to spray a burst as well. Is there a particular Brand/Model that is reccomended?? Thanks, Scott |

Paasche H, ~ with all three tip sizes...although you will probably only be using the #5 http://www.paascheairbrush.com/products/airbrushes-airbrush-parts-and-accessories/Airbrushes/single-action/h-1 and this is a must...a moisture trap, with a 15 ft hose Get a few larger bottles as well. US made, this gun has been the work horse for industrial, commercial and fine artists for over a century. Single action..idiot proof. Highly recommend staying away from the double action modes for this type of work. Blessings |

Good advice from Padma. I bought one on his recommendation a number of years ago. Thanks my friend. I bought this set http://www.airbrushoutlet.com/hset.html. I also picked up some larger pots and lids. It works great for spraying alcohol bursts. Not so much for lacquer bursts. I did one and wasn't happy with the results. I use my gun dialled down a bit and it does a much better job. The spray gun was easier to feather in and make a more uniform pattern. |

I got this one: http://www.woodcraft.com/Product/208401 ... h-Kit.aspx I hooked it up to my air compressor at 40 PSI and it atomizes super fine. The external mix makes it super easy to clean up. I got a larger jar to hold more finish. |

I use a badger 200. It is a single action and works very well. I find that I can get most accessories and parts at my local hobby shop for badger airbrushes. No one around her carries the Paache stuff. |

Ah,,, A topic I know a lot about. In my previous life I painted cars and am also an artist so I did a lot of custom painting (in the 60's and 70's). I have owned all the brand name airbrushes but found Paache to be the most consistent. I own both the single and dual action but the dual action is my go-to brush. However I would highly recommend buying the DeVilbiss EGA Touch up gun over an airbrush for guitar work. You can get it with a fine needle and cap which will get down to the detail level of an airbrush with the largest cap and needle. An airbrush is designed for drawing and painting small details so the biggest fan pattern you can get is still pretty small. They also do not hold much material so you they will not cover that much of an area. I use my Touch up gun to spray the finish on my guitars as well as for detail work like shading wood tones out and doing bursts. The best part of using a touch up gun over an airbrush is it doesn't get clogged nearly as much as an airbrush. Also airbrushes are designed to spray very thin material where my touch up gun has no problem spraying un-thinned lacquer. Yes, I agree with Robert. My Devilbiss SRI pro gun which is designed for small spot repair and color blending has replaced my airbrush in most applications. I only use the airbrush for very small spot repair these days. |

I used to have a Paschee VL, and thought I could do bursts with it... it turned out to be useless because even the largest needle is too fine for guitar work, not to mention it doesn't hold much material. I now use a spray gun for sunburst... it has a 1.3mm tip so it will do both clear and burst fairly well. However now I fell in love with FP so the gun and compressor just sits there gathering dust... |
